We were wayward pirates, drowning in the obsessions of our flourishing love. We cruised through the wild waters, hijacking the merriment from lost sailors. That agitated storm zapped you to a different current, to a distant lover and I was stranded, amidst the taunting sharks and questioning clouds, waiting for the pirates to ransack me. Without you, my mermaid, I am a lost sailor too now, deserted and depleted.

broke away from the branches of my heart

closed all the windows
bolted the entrance
of my heart
promised not to loiter
happily embraced loneliness
finally i was single

suddenly, something moved
right there
Oh, my heart,
you betrayed me again,
after six years
my deserted life
blossomed again

my disobedient heart
made me a carefree lover again

The deserted backyard
Was once a glow in the dark
With the chirrupings of the

// An ode to love, unrequited.

Every unrequited love is a home
that’s built in the middle of nowhere
for someone who will never live in it.
A gentle breeze will find its way through
the windows with rustling white curtains
and look for a life that was never meant to be.

A compact kitchen where a late brunch
will never be cooked on a Sunday.
A drawing room which will never be filled
with the sound of TV and laughter.
A sunlit balcony where kisses will never be stolen
over a cup of morning coffee.
A doorstep that will never have a hug waiting
at the end of a tiring day.
A bedroom where an intimacy beyond the boundaries
of a bed will never be shared.

But it shall still be a home
of things that never could be
and stand as an ode to love, unrequited.
Now deserted.
