There's always a soul
Screaming in agony
We stop for a while
Console them with
empty words
And then walk away
We tell ourselves
That's all we could've done
At least we had stopped
And they weren't asking
us for help.-
There was something so
animalistic about her laugh
It was messy and wild
I couldn't stop looking
How can it be so loud
And yet feel like peace?

He laughed with such abandon
I always wondered
Is his heart free of scars?
His eyes were filled with warmth
It made me think
Is his soul never cold?
He walked with spring in his steps
I questioned
Was there no weight on his shoulders?
He gave his trust so easily
I asked
Has no one ever broken it before?
He spoke so tenderly
It made me pause
Was there nothing making him suffer?
When I look beyond this
I see a boy with heart full scars
Shivering and stumbling as he walks
Stabbed in back by people he loves
Suffering? Yes, he is
Yet he says he will give it his all.

His smile was one of the kind
Sweet and naive
His eyes were hungry for love
Whenever I looked at him
I felt my heart break.-
It was inevitable the way
most of the tragic things are
You know the choice you made
won't end well yet you can't stop yourself,
It's like there is this deep seated desire
to watch it all fall apart,
In the process you hope
to find what makes you who you are
If it's something pretty and kind
You'll embrace it like you've
always wanted to be embraced,
And if it turns out to be
something cruel and ugly
You'll still end up embracing it,
You tend to forget all those time you were happy
But pain and suffering stays with you forever
Sadness leaves scars all over the soul
And you remember it for a long time,
If you ever get to smile
so brightly that it burns your soul
Makes you so happy that
you can't help but ache
Happiness like that, would it be worth it?

Cacophonous and, at times, piercing
Maybe sometimes it was sweet too
It sounded like storm and death
If death ever had a sound
It would be like this itching calm
That makes your skin crawl
Suffocating yet addicting
Like a scab you can't help picking all the time
Didn't my love sound like heart beat?
Inaudible mostly
But also throbbing and roaring
Like a beast that's mostly asleep
But can wreck havoc if necessary.
