When I got off work
I stopped by to check on your heart.
When I got there
I was treated like a stranger.
Of all the times I'd come by
I felt extorted, like I was robbed
of something close to me.
Of all the familiarity
That I was in the wrong place.
When I got off work
I thought that this was something
We could work on.
At least somewhere close to the curb.

Was finding a place to park.
The very least of my problems
A revoked parking pass.

I want to buy a building with you,
Something that we can both pass on
to miniature versions of ourselves.
Stone statutes & cement bricks
Influential of the fears of growth.
A building that we can walk in front of again
as different people year after year.
The philosophy of weathered brick
Gray & stained from grooved watermark,
Steadily sinking into the ground.
How far I’ve fallen,
The tallest building on the smallest block.
A monument of unification
Your name and mine signed together
on a dotted line
picking out different windows & new doors
my heart free to wander upstairs
brick by brick;
expanding upward in innovation.
My every thought of you
Meowing like a cat in the alley
Until that one stranger passes by
That changes its life forever.

Footprint Stamps

Her heart was an island that I explored
In glee.
Her hands, her thighs
even her smile.
Strangers that would become friends.
At first we were silent
Who would've thought the possibility,
In reference to past mistakes.
Places advised not to go,
This was my first time in an island
paradise.
I wandered through the sun in search
of night.
Under the thick shade of palm tree hair,
Tropical punch lips sitting
by the ocean side.
In a blink
The eclipse of her eyes shot past
like a thief in the night.
Searching for anything of value.
My newfound friends grabbed me tight
Tighter than I've ever been grabbed in
life.
Before a single word could be said.
They ran off with my passport
& Took all of my money.
All of my freedoms, all of my
liberations.
Ran beside her, bursting out at the
seams.
I too chased behind her
Her footprints the continuing stamp
on my passport

While the world is asleep
I lie awake in a dream that feels real
because I am with you.
They'll lie still and we won't disturb
them.
