You don’t know my favourite colour or the one song that always makes me cry. You don’t know my brother’s name or what grade I got for the english essay I wrote last month. And I could tell you, but you won’t be interested because you simply don’t care. The only thing you want from me is what you want from other girls and I’m not okay with that. Because you don’t know my favourite book, my biggest pet peeve or how much sugar I like in my tea. And I’m not prepared to give you all the personal parts of me because you don’t know the reasons for these scars on my wrist. Hell, you don’t even know they’re there.

Flowers will always wilt and wither,
All that exists will turn to dust.
Fire will also be soon just embers,

So many people walk on this earth,
With purpose in their eyes.
But in the deepest core of their heart they know,
What they’re living is a lie.
The alarm goes off at 6am,
Like every other day.
So they can do the job they hate,
Because they need the pay.
All time does is take from them,
It never seems to give.
Always waiting for the day to come,
When they finally start to live.
I’m scared that one day soon,
I’ll become just like the rest.
Only matching pace with the crowd,
With my dreams having oppressed.
That one day I’ll look back at life,
And at the opportunities I missed.
And realise I never truly lived,
All I did was only exist.

As though to test if it was cold.
And I knew it right when you shivered,
You were more scared than you told.
I wrote my words into a life ring,
Something to keep your world afloat.
But against the strength of a nightmare,
They were a soggy paper boat.
I don’t know what the blackness told you,
Or about the wonderous things it planned to give.
But I watched as the light died in your eyes,
Along with your will to live.
I screamed your name to pierce the silence,
But you were too far away to hear.
Caught somewhere between being noticed,
And wanting to disappear.
You once said you hated gloominess,
And that you’d never learnt to swim.
But as promises pumped through your veins,
You took a deep breath and jumped in.
