Don't.
Don't knock at their door.
Don't do it, again and again.
Not again when you're least expected.
Not in the middle of the night
when you're not wanted,
even in their dreams.
Not when they look at your shadow
like a shallow pit.
Not when they feel your breath
burning their skin.
Don't stand at their doorstep.
They're not welcoming you.
You're not all the words spoken,
not those poetry written, songs sung.
You're not the love you have for them.
You're all the things unwanted,
all that unloved.
Not again and again.
Don't knock at their door.
Just don't.
