My friend, a doctor working 14 hours a day in rotational shifts round the clock texted me at 2 AM if I can make a strong coffee for him and store it in a hot flask by the time he reaches home.
The last time I had a peaceful sleep was more than 6 months ago, without worrying about every second he spends at the hospital protecting his patients from the virus. He is very much of a go-to guy to his patients, maybe that's one of the reasons he came home a couple of times with injuries on his body because people still believed that it was his fault that he couldn't save some of his patients to the deadly virus and he deserved the punishment.
I ask him every single day to quit, or at least transfer to some other department where he won't be needed to come in contact with the virus-infected patients.
Tonight he came home with a bruise on his cheeks, eyes were swollen and his left hand broken. Now, I took the responsibility on myself to make sure that he is not going to the hospital from today. I affirmed it.
Unusual him, had a cup of hot coffee, took a deep breath, got up from his seat with eyes opened with a force. He looked at me, smiled, and said that he quits.
No complaints.
