just like dodgy notions are,
then we wouldn't have been
accustomed to hating ourselves
as we unfortunately are from our very
childhood.

As I wait to put another dose of medicine down my throat, I ponder nights.

From arms of beloved to an empty, it has been a long journey. Evolution and devastation went hand in hand. Reminds me of the concept of प्रलय. To destroy is to build.

Stars, shore, sea, dreams, I have waited for the night that never ends. I've waited for the sun that stays at dawn and doesn't rise up. I've waited for the dusk that never settles, black that darkens, white that keeps fading and today, a medicine that puts me to sleep to wake up in a dream where I can just get up, pick up the book I slept reading, go make some Kashmiri Kahwa for me, sit out watching the day rise, rain settle and just dial your number to hear your voice without being preceded by the Corona care advisory.

No one believed me when I said once normal could one day be a surreal luxury.

Now, you do. Don't you?

I call this a bitter pill of life,
Meant to be taken in a stride.
Dancing to the beat of  same drum
We save the best for another day
Not sure of what future will offer
Our scars defining who we are...
A lone star in the sky, burning bright.

the moon rarely

i sleep early now.
sleeping pills
are my closest companion.
our chats still
remain.
but i don't go through
them
like i used to, once.

it's all fine
now.
thought
i should let you
know.

Later when I grow up
