What else do you think, dear Laila, he could have done? He, for many reasons, had no one, who wanted to sit with him in his regard and hear his sobs. It's inevitable what has happened. You've to understand, not only him but any man, if been in his place, would have reflected what has come out of him. For what has come out of him, my Laila, is not in my best of abilities to ponder. We can only pity him.

Laila, I cannot imagine how you never knew Kannaiya. Even a child that walked the streets of Tilak nagar junction, in the months of 2012, might know. If asked, the child may recall its memory of have seen a man who was bald, with protruded tummy. Few of them were fond of Kannaiya. He used to make them hear the telltales of his childhood. Once I got to eavesdrop his cherry topped narratives. I have no reason not to doubt that he was bragging. But to me, Kannaiya, when reminded of his past, is no different than the child who was listening. In this way, he acquired a momentum with kids around the neighborhood. But what has come of this sheer innocence, Laila, shows what we humans have become. Aaah, every detail of that day remains in my eyes, even after all these years.

His story, Laila, though one of the millions, will wrench your heart in ways you cannot imagine. He may, if paid meticulous attention, linger in your thoughts all through the day. For it's not the tale of a man to be listened, sitting at a river side, in an autumn evening. I tell you, this is the kind you'll have to hear cupping your mouth, holding the pillows and struggle not to break. For it's the life of Kannaiya.
