Moments that were silent and unspoken

When I was in Grade 3
I would sit down under my tree
The one in school, by the little pond
Unconcerned about the future beyond
When I was in Grade 3
I thought an adult was always free
No test to prepare or school to dread
I was unaware about earning my own bread
Now I am not in Grade 3
Where I believed the future was easy
But now I yearn to be back in school
Alas! A wistful thinking of a naive fool

It was raining;
The little girl in me
wanted to jump in the puddle
The adolescent in me
worried about ruining my shoes
The adult in me cautioned
over catching a cold
And the old lady in me nudged
to do it all
So I walked in the rain,
In my wellington boots
Jumping in puddles
While holding an umbrella

I still waited
In my grave
Hoping you would
Visit with flowers

On cold moonless nights
And dreary grey days
It was his arms I ran to
He was home

After long years at sea
He stepped on land and
The sun at its highest
Was the moment when
He saw her cross
At first he thought it was another one of God's test
But Nay it wasn't, his eyes couldn't betray him
His heart however did, with a frenzied rhythm in his chest
Years of voyage had not quite prepared him for this
For the sight before him was simply hard to digest
Not knowing what
To think or speak
He reached out
But he was weak
And all he did
Was simply stare
At the young girl
Eyes blank and bare
Her arms stretched
On her white cross
Upon which perched
An old albatross

She was attracted
to the undying fire
in him,
only to realise later,
that its embers
were from hell
