4 spoons lie next to each other on a dinner table.
The smallest, silver one for the littlest hands in that family. She feeds her child from a pan till his full belly drowses him to sleep.
The slightly bigger one for her teenage daughter who barely registers her food. In her world, hunger stays and goes like an unplanned guest.
Next spoon is heavy and deep. It carries a large proportion of food for a hard working husband. He asks for more, she offers. He goes off to claim his righteous rest.
The last spoon is thin, bent by its neck. It breaks when picked up. She smiles, she could always use her hands. She reaches down her pan to find an empty base.
Her faded smile persists like leftovers on a plate.
