like a rose with the warmth of her love
was now crushed like the fallen petals

Years in and Years out,
She wakes up to the same mirror
which paints the tale of her ugly dark skin.
She weeps at those skinny brown hands
as anything is better than brown or dark.
She walks out of the bathroom only to the
disappointment that hours of scrubbing
could do nothing but give rashes.
She is denied of donning a black dress
as it resembles her skin, making her a shame.
She is afraid to appear to those eyes
which ogle at breasts and ass but soon
turn away upon looking at her brown face.
She is rewarded with fairness creams
to bury herself with, else she'll be a liability.
Her aunt walks in every evening only to blame
her mom for a disgraceful daughter.
Years in and Years out,
She sleeps to the notions of
distress, distrust and anguish
For she is born in a country
where being brown is a sin.
For she's in a society where
being fair defines your status.
For she is The Bleached Indian Girl!!

They will always curse the culprit
They will always walk in a candle march for her
They will always share her pics everywhere,
But when it comes to solving the problem,
All of them will head back to their doors!!

The brightest sunrise fails to blow away
the vague darkness of my mind
The cold layers of the frozen pain
in my mind can't be thawed.
Being loved is a fear now for
I've no strings to bind hearts with.
Anyone coming closer to
my scarred soul gives me chills.

ruled by my ugly past.
