....the power went off. An usual happening in Indian summer nights, but the boisterous gang creating a ruckus at the middle of the street was unusual. After a momentary hesitation, I put on a brave front and started walking when one arrogant guy wolf-whistled. For a moment I assessed the worst that could happen and braced myself.
As if on cue you came pouncing from across the street and stood poised in front of me. The raised hackles, bared teeth and the menacing growl building up in your chest scattered those cowards away. You were my Messiah in a fur coat! From then on, you always accompanied me to the tuition centre and then came back at night to ensure I reached home safely. I am not even sure if I saw you as a pet dog after that episode. We became so close that we treated each other as long term friends. (To be continued...)
