Spotting A Cliché

If you were to go on a hunt
to spot a cliché or two,
the first thing to do is start
reading a book or two.
Clichés are ideas
redundant and overdone,
writers have been using them
for decades, hence no fun.

Romanticising poverty,
or a soldier's death,
journey over destination crap
or the beloved who left.
You can't avoid these ideas,
all lives are similar more or less.
The key to be original is
using a language that's fresh.
